COOP News V. 1 No. 4, March 17, 2008
What a wonderful get-together we had tonight. Thank you all for taking the time to come out. We all enjoyed meeting Andrea, Francie and Margot and look forward to more occasions to get together.
I'm sure the highlight of the evening was visiting Lisa and Laurie's coop — it is a thing of beauty. We should all have a professional carpenter in our family.
For a few pics of tonight's get-together, go here: chickenowners.com/scratch/coop031608.htm
Please tell me who brought the wonderful little chicken (pictured on the page above). I love her and she now lives on the piano.
=== Andrea has started the "Chicken Philadelphia" yahoo group that you can join. We link to it from the COOP website here:
There seem to be several very knowledgeable chicken owners there that can help us newbies. I also really love the forum on the Backyard Chickens website: backyardchickens.com/forum/
=== I think a few people had left tonight when I brought up the fact that I have a friend with a native plant nursery (redbudnursery.com) and that I am going to be buying some native grasses from her to plant outside the chicken coop so that there is both a nice plant border around the outside of the coop fence as well as nice grasses that can serve as treats for the chickens later in the season when they come to seed. My favorite grass is the purple love grass (www.bluestoneperennials.com/b/bp/ERSPS.html). My friend Katherine recommends planting in late April/early May for grasses that will grow all summer.
=== The next meeting will be at the end of April before the chicks come in May 4th so we can go over last minute preparations (and eat more wonderful chocolate desserts). The meeting will be at Sherri and Steve's. Please look at your calendars and let me know what dates are good. Saturday April 26 or Sunday April 27 would be ideal.
=== I look forward to our next get-together.
