Coop News V. 2 No. 3, June 17, 2008

Hi All -

What a great COOP meeting on Saturday. Debbie and Dave did a fabulous job hosting and the weather held out just long enough. What wonderful friends, food, beverages (and door prizes!). Debbie really went above and beyond the call of duty — and we loved every minute of it. It was great to see so many new faces and hope you'll all come back again next time. Thanks again D&D.

In attendance: Nancy and Doug, Ron and Carolyn, Lisa and Laurie, David and Debbie, Kristina and Andrew, Margot and Francie, Melinda, Heidi and Elizabeth, Kristen and Sandy, Steve and Sherrie, and Susan and Dick

FEED

Ron sent an email out about feed that he and Dave picked up the other day. Be sure to contact Ron if you ordered food.

INTEGRATION

Lisa and Laurie are in the process of introducing their old and new chicks. They have enough room that they have set up a nice sized pen inside the chicken yard where their chicks stay during the day and a wired-off section inside the coop where they go at night. So far, aside from a single peck on the head between Chicken Big and Chicken Little, all is going well.

Ron — maybe you can set something like that up in your new coop? You may even be able to set up a temporary front yard/back yard arrangement so the big girls go out the front door and the little ones out the back?

L&L — Keep us posted how it goes.

COOP HAS A NEW HOME

Since the chicks and our COOP group seem to be growing at about the same pace, Doug has purchased www.chickenowners.com as the new website domain name. Easier to remember, faster to type. So, if you have the site bookmarked, you might want to change it.

LOGO

Now that we have several artists in our group (I know at least Susan and Heidi fit that category) I'm wondering if we can come up with a logo. Kristina has offered to make a silkscreen. We had previously talked about using the Robert Indiana LOVE sculpture and changing it to COOP with one of the Os being an egg. I still like that idea but would love to see other ideas — anyone have time to come up with something?

NEXT MEETING

We'd like to meet in August — Lisa & Laurie have offered to host, but it may be hard to find a date. IF YOU ARE GOING AWAY IN AUGUST, please let me know what dates you'll be away and I'll try to find a date when all or most people can attend.

CHICK PICS

As before, I'm happy to post any chicken pictures you may have, and would love to see some coop pictures as well.

That's all — oh, except to thank Elizabeth/Laurie/Kristina for my quote of the week: "Burt's Bees has a good poison ivy remedy and bee suits can't be put in the washer."
