COOP News Vol. 4 No. 4, Sept. 21, 2009

Hi Fellow Coopers — Fall is in the air and I don't know about you all, but our egg production is heading down. 4 eggs yesterday and today where a week ago we were getting 7 and 8 eggs a day. Ah well.

We also have three hens in full molt right now, and along with molting their feathers, they are molting their egg laying habits as well. No eggs during a molt. Mami, Uma and Nixi, all 16 months old, are shedding feathers like it's going out of style. Mami started first and her feathers are starting to grow back in but the others look a mess. A right motley crew.

Nanshe, who went broody 18 weeks ago and hatched out chicks from three of Ron & Carolyn's eggs 8 weeks ago is starting to go back into that chicken "crouch" and I think she laid an egg yesterday because we got the weirdest looking pale brown egg. It will be nice to have her back. She was one of our best layers.

I was contacted by a student at Swarthmore yesterday. His group wants to buy 15 chicks from Murry McMurray's in order to provide fresh, local eggs in the campus cafeteria. The school has allowed them to get 15 and Murry only sells in batches of 25. Does anyone want to order chicks in October? Please let me know.

Danny Sabia — lives on Tyson Ave. in Glenside. He has some chickens, and his brother and sister also live in the area and have chickens. Hope to see them all at the next COOP meeting!

Sunday, October 11, somewhere around 3 pm.
Steve and Sherri Klein
4135 Aster Lane
Plymouth Meeting PA 19462

Sherri will provide paper products, but feel free to bring your own plates, cups, silver (for us "save the earth" folks)

Lets see if this will work:

Everyone who's last name starts with the letter A through I — side dish or appetizer
J through R — Entree
S through Z — Dessert
As far as drinks go, I thought it would just be easier if everyone brought their own

Please let Sherri know about a week ahead of time if you will be coming or not so that I know how many to set up for. It may be helpful if y'all bring a chair with ya.

I do have a large tent, so weather should not be a problem.

Plenty of parking is available along Woodbine Way which backs up onto our house.
